From order to installation: How we work with landscapers to get plants onto site
For us, supplying plants is about much more than getting an order onto a lorry.
We know that by the time a plant delivery arrives, there is usually a lot happening on site. Landscapers are working to programmes, site managers are coordinating multiple trades and planting areas can change as a project progresses. Our job is to make the plant supply and delivery process fit into that picture as smoothly as possible. That starts well before delivery day.
Planning around the project
We work closely with landscape designers, garden designers, landscapers, gardeners and contractors to understand what is needed, when it is needed and what is required for the delivery to work on site.
A plant schedule, planting plan, specification or project requirement can change, access can move and construction deadlines can shift, so we keep communication open throughout the process. For larger landscape projects and commercial planting schemes, this might mean coordinating several deliveries around different phases of a project. For others, it is simply making sure the right trees, hedging and plants arrive at the right time.
Our plant sourcing service allows us to find plants to suit the individual requirements of a project. This could include specimen trees, multistems, standard trees, shrubs, perennials, herbaceous plants and evergreen or deciduous varieties, as well as specialist hedging options.
Depending on the planting scheme, this could mean sourcing drought tolerant planting, disease resistant plants or plants suited to specific site conditions. We work with a network of growers and suppliers to source plants to individual specifications, while maintaining the standards expected from a professional wholesale nursery and trade plant specialist.
Making delivery day work
A delivery is only successful if it works for the site.
Before plants leave us, we make sure the order has been carefully prepared and checked. We also need to know the practical details: where the delivery is going, what access is available and whether there are any particular requirements for unloading.
Planting material can arrive in different forms depending on the requirements of the project, including rootball and pot grown plants, larger specimen trees and instant hedging where an established hedge is required from the outset.
Once the trees, hedging, shrubs and plants arrive, the aim is to get them where they need to be as efficiently as possible.
And, as anyone who works on landscape construction and planting projects knows, things do not always go exactly to plan.
A planting area might not be ready. Access could have changed. A delivery window may need to move. When that happens, having a direct relationship with the site team allows us to react quickly and find a workable solution.
From lorry to planting area
Getting plants through the gate is not the finish line.
Particularly with larger trees, mature trees, multistems and specimen trees, careful handling and positioning are important. Knowing what is arriving means the site team can prepare for the delivery and organise plants for installation without unnecessary movement or storage.
For us, that is where good planning pays off. The smoother the handover from nursery to landscape site, the easier it is for the planting team to get on with the job.
Whether it is standard trees and evergreen hedging for a residential development, specimen Amelanchier for a garden design, Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia') or Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia') for a screening scheme, Yew (Taxus baccata) for a formal hedge, or a mix of shrubs, perennials and herbaceous plants for a larger landscape scheme, every delivery needs to arrive ready for the next stage.

Our landscaper and garden designer customers trust us to supply plants that meet their specification, arrive when they are needed and can be incorporated into the project without unnecessary complications.
For some projects, that means sourcing a particular specimen tree. For others, it could be a bespoke selection of planting to complement a garden design, a large quantity of wholesale plants for a commercial scheme or specific hedging to meet a planting plan.
We also take our responsibilities around plant health seriously. Working with trusted growers and suppliers and following Plant Healthy principles helps us maintain the quality of the plants we supply, from smaller pot grown plants through to larger rootball trees.
