Getting the Best from Your Bedding:

To ensure your bedding plants thrive and provide a summer-long spectacle, here are a few tips:

• Preparation is Key: Use good quality multi-purpose compost in containers and hanging baskets. For borders, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost.
• Planting Out: Wait until the risk of late frosts has passed before planting out tender bedding plants. Harden them off gradually by placing them outside during the day and bringing them in at night for a week or two before planting in their final positions.
• Watering: Bedding plants in containers and baskets dry out quickly, especially in warm weather. Water regularly, perhaps even twice a day during hot spells, ensuring the compost is moist but not waterlogged. Plants in borders will also need watering, particularly during dry periods.
• Feeding: To keep those flowers coming, feed your bedding plants regularly with a high-potash liquid fertiliser every week or two throughout the summer.
• Deadheading: Removing spent flowers is crucial for encouraging most bedding plants to produce more blooms and will keep your displays looking tidy.
